Bernice L. Adubato

Bernice L. Adubato, 100, of Port Monmouth, died Sept. 15, 2021, in Neptune. She was born in Belford in 1921 to Joseph and Eleanore Glowacki. She grew up in a large family with seven sisters and one brother. While she was growing up she worked at the five and dime.

At the time World War II was starting Bernice felt she needed to be there for her country so she joined the USO to help support the troops fighting oversees. It was soon after that Bernice met the love of her life, Joseph Adubato, and the two married in 1955. They spent 62 wonderful years together raising their son Stephen.

During this time, she worked with her husband in his commercial fishing business, Adubato Brothers Fishing. While she was working with the fish her family caught, she decided to try her hand at processing caviar. She would soon start processing and canning her own caviar, which she sold to the Romanoff Caviar Company, an endeavor she was quite successful in. Bernice also found her love for gardening and growing her own vegetables and flowers during this time.

She will be remembered for her love for her family, cats and her sparkling personality.

Surviving is her son Stephen Adubato of Port Monmouth; two nieces, Barbara Wolfe and Mary Henderson; and nephew Edward Dubeski. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Joseph T. Adubato; father Joseph Glowacki; mother Eleanore Rudnik; and seven sisters and one brother.

A funeral liturgy was offered Sept. 20 at Mary Mother of God Church, Middletown. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in Bernice’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
