Betty D. Hansen of Little Silver peacefully passed away Jan. 8, 2024, at the age of 107.

Born in Red Bank, Betty lived all her life in Little Silver. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank.

Betty was a 1937 graduate of Trenton State Teachers College and, for more than 20 years, was a school teacher at Little Silver’s Markham Place School.

Betty and her husband Carl Hansen were married for over 60 years and had two sons.

Betty was a die-hard New York Yankees fan. It wasn’t uncommon to see her being driven to town to get her hair done almost every week. Betty will be remembered for the positive influence she had on the lives of members of the community and for her many strengths of instilling love, care, self-esteem and responsibility in her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty was predeceased by her sisters, Viola Wilson and Evelyn Mazza. She is survived by her sons, Larry Hansen (Nikki) of Worthington, Ohio, and Bruce and Kathy Hansen of River Forest, Illinois; her grandchildren, Betsey (Brian) Matsubara, Erica (Jason) Geil and Adam (Sonya) Hansen; her great-grandchildren, Owen Matsubara and Finnegan Geil; and her dear friends, Peg and Pete Roskowinski.

Visitation and a service were held Jan. 12 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Burial followed at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Bank United Methodist Church or Markham Place School, Little Silver, in memory of Betty.
