Bing Cheo, a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather from Middletown, passed away July 20, 2024. He was 86 years old.
Born in Chekiang, China, Bing was the only child of Ying-Mei Tsang and Henry Yuan-Chen. Bing immigrated to the United States in 1963 for graduate engineering studies at the University of Reno and later moved to New York City where he met his future wife Lourdes. He resided in Middletown for over 50 years.
A civil engineer, Bing worked for the NJ Turnpike Authority for over 30 years. He had an insatiable curiosity and brought his considerable talents to all of his undertakings, whether it was reengineering anything he could get his hands on (he was the original up-cycler), building furniture, becoming a skier in his 50s, his decades-long love of photography, or learning everything he could on a subject to feed his voracious appetite for knowledge. He was full of wonder, never thought twice about helping others, adored all babies and animals, and was the most thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate and compassionate soul. His proudest and most cherished accomplishment was that of raising a family.
Bing is survived by his darling wife of 58 years Lourdes; his beloved daughters, Catherine, Mei, and Olivia; granddaughters, Grace and Leila; his sons-in-law, Steve and Craig; grandson-in-law Graham; and cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation was July 26 at John P. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Committal was private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bing’s memory can be made to the American Heart Association at heart.org.
