Robert J. Burgo, 83, of Lincroft, passed away peacefully Sept. 16 at his home with his family by his side. Robert was born June 11, 1936 on Staten Island, New York. He grew up in Grasmere, and attended New Dorp High School. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he completed his tour of duty and was honorably discharged.

Robert married his beloved wife Lillian in 1963 and they settled in Great Kills where they raised their family. While on Staten Island he was very active in St. Clare’s Parish. Robert was a New York City firefighter. In 1985 the family decided to move to Lincroft and he became an active member of St. Catharine’s Parish in Holmdel, as well as Healing Shepard Charismatic Prayer group at Holy Cross Church in Rumson where they were active members for 30 years.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Angela and James Burgo.

He was the beloved husband of Lillian, who for 56 wonderful years was the apple of his eye. Robert was the devoted father of Beverly and her husband George Nowakowski; Lisa Bartolotto; Barbara Burgo; Lori and her husband Mark Catanese; and Angela and her husband Ryan McAleavey. Robert is also survived by his loving brother Gerard and his wife Joan Burgo; and his beloved 11 grandchildren, Nicole, Anika, Victoria, Christina, James, Aubrey, Anthony, Robert, Lillian, Dominic and Kira.

Robert loved family outings, beach days, fishing and crabbing. He took pride coaching his daughter’s basketball and softball teams throughout grade school. He also enjoyed raising his pigeons to race for close to 10 years. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Robert reposed Sept. 18 at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Catharine’s Parish in Holmdel. Interment followed at Oceanview Cemetery on Staten Island.
