Donald E. Callahan, 87, of Middletown, passed away on Friday, January 1 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was born in New York City to the late S. Joseph and Mary Callahan. Donald served his country in the New York Army National Guard for 15 years, retiring as captain. He was a 1950 graduate of Manhattan College earning a degree in electrical engineering. He retired as senior director of engineering with Planters LifeSavers Company/RJR Nabisco after 29 years of service.

Ever the animal lover, Donald was a member of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America and the Garden State All Terrier Club. A lifelong fan of the New York Football Giants, he was inducted into the team’s Season Ticket Hall of Fame in 2013.

Donald was predeceased by his son, Daniel E. in 1998; and daughter-in-law, Anna Marie in 2011. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julia M.; a son, Robert D., and grandson Charlie, of Red Bank; a son, Edward and daughter-in-law Carmen and their niece Monica, all of Dunellen.

Visitation was held on Monday, January 4 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Tuesday, January 5 at St. James R.C. Church, Red Bank.
