Carmelo Tiangco Gulfin

1499

Carmelo Tiangco Gulfin went home to be with the Lord Dec. 11 in Red Bank. Born in the Philippines, Mel lived his 72 years on this Earth showing love to everyone he met – always ready with a smile, friendly greeting, encouraging words or a song. Mel was a talented singer, guitar player and composer who conveyed passion and emotion every time he performed. He had a wonderful positive spirit and lit up a room with his radiant smile, melodic laugh and booming voice.

He used his passion for repairing cars to provide a means of transportation to many, especially those starting a new life in the United States. He passed away without much to his name, but because of his utmost generosity with his money, talent and time on this Earth, he stored his treasures in heaven. Mel is now with his beloved Jesus, whom Mel praised, loved, served and pointed others to throughout his life.

Mel is survived by his family, whom he loved and valued most in this world. He was a devoted husband to Aurelia, his beloved wife, best friend and partner in music and ministry for 46 years; loving father to his children Felix (Jennifer), Genevieve (Todd Perkins), and Miguel; doting Lolo/grandfather to his grandchildren Arden and Corinna; and caring brother to his siblings Virginia (Ainsley Nathaniel), Frank (Anita), Antonio, Rosario (Alfredo Benito), Feliz and Fil (Rebecca). Mel will also be fondly remembered by many members of his extended family as well as countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Felix and Lilia Gulfin.

Mel loved being around people, but due to the current pandemic and his family’s concern for everyone’s health and safety, the viewing and funeral Mass will be private. A celebration of Mel’s full and well-lived life will be held on a later date.
