Carol DeMaio, 75, of Middletown, passed away Sept. 24, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Carol was born June 19, 1951, in Hackensack, to loving parents Rose and Russell Merkle. A dedicated nurse, Carol took great pride in caring for others and the compassion she provided to her patients throughout her career.
Carol was known for her quick wit, infectious humor and vibrant personality. She could always be found cracking jokes and bringing laughter to those around her. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and was often the life of the party.
Outside of her work, Carol found joy in tending to her plants, spoiling her human and dog grandchildren, dancing and cooking for the people she loved.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom DeMaio, who passed away Aug. 10, 2006. She leaves behind her children, Tommy DeMaio and Danielle DeMaio; her cherished granddaughter, Riley Mascola; and her sisters, Linda McAuliffe and Barbara Merkle.
Carol will be remembered for her enormous heart, her unforgettable sense of humor and the love she shared so freely with her family, friends and everyone fortunate enough to meet her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories and laughter she leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation was held Sept. 29 at the John E. Day Funeral Home. A Mass was held Sept. 30 at St. Mary’s Church in Middletown. Following Mass, Carol was laid to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
