Joseph Castronovo, 83, of South Amboy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on Wednesday, January 6. Joseph was born on October 28, 1932 in Bagheria,
Sicily, Italy, where he grew up. In 1958, he relocated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. On October 15, 1960, Joseph and his wife, Josephine, were married and began their life together. In 1966, they moved to Staten Island, N.Y., where they began to raise their family and in 1977, settled in Sayreville. Joseph was a retired restaurateur and also a veteran of the Italian Army.
He was predeceased by his parents, Antonino and Francesca (Pedona) Castronovo; and his brother, Carlo Castronovo. Joseph is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 55 years, Josephine (Gagliano) Castronovo; his loving children, Francine Brunk and her husband Robert of Stewartsville, Anthony Castronovo and his wife Victoria of Jackson, Carmelo Castronovo of Tinton Falls and Christina Henry and her husband Mark of Millstone. He is also survived by his sister, Dora Castronovo; his cherished grandchildren, Dominiquea Castronovo, Juliana Castronovo, Victoria Siclari, Giuseppe Castronovo, Pino Henry, Jennifer Brunk, Dominic Castronovo, Celina Henry, Brandon Castronovo, Isabella Castronovo and Joseph Castronovo; along with many extended family members and friends. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 10 and Monday, January 11 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, January 11 at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Entombment followed at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Marlboro.
