Charles Horowitz, the light of so many lives, passed peacefully Sept. 12, 2021, after a short and well-fought battle with cancer. Charlie was born in 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, and lived in New York until he moved to Red Bank in 1978.
Charlie served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in the 1960s. Known for the quickest of wits and brightest of dimpled smiles, Charlie was most comfortable in the spotlight making people laugh and even spent some time as a stand-up comedian known as Charlie Harmon.
Always enterprising, Charlie started and ran many businesses and was widely known as the face of HobbyMasters. Also known locally as Red Bank Charlie, he spent many years skillfully organizing Meetup groups where he met many friends and which eventually led him to his beloved Karen whom he waited for all his life.
His proudest accomplishment though was his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Naomi and Al, his brother Marvin, sister-in-law Renee and his best friend Paul. He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela (Carmine, whom he loved like a son) and Erica; and his wife Karen, who was the love of his life. Charlie basked in the glow of their love. His five grandchildren and newest granddaughter-in-law also enjoyed the closest of relationships with him and called him “Pow.” Stephen (Alexa), Alex (Dasha), Julia, Amelia and Tucker loved and admired their Pow. He spent many Sundays in Rockland County and rarely missed any event. The kids looked forward to visiting him on the Jersey Shore or traveling with him. His indomitable sense of humor was with him to the end and lives on in his grandchildren.
Husband, father and Pow, Charlie’s light will always shine bright.
Services for Charlie are private and under the direction of Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank.
