Nancy Louise Cherry, 68, of Hazlet, passed away June 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. Nancy was born July 26, 1950 in Red Bank and grew up in Hazlet where she lived for her entire life.

As a young adult, she attended the University of Delaware and obtained her bachelor’s degree.  In her early years of her career Nancy was a copy editor for the Bergen Record. In more recent years, she worked for the Hazlet and Holmdel elementary school systems as a substitute teacher.

Nancy was very involved in her community and was especially active with her church, St. John’s United Methodist in Hazlet. She was a very knowledgeable person and always seemed to have the answers to everyone’s questions. Nancy was also an extremely inquisitive woman; she was always wanting to learn more. In addition, Nancy loved music and enjoyed going to concerts in her spare time.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Carlton and Lillian (Davies) Cherry.Nancy is survived by her brother Russell Cherry and his wife Barbara of Ashburn, Virginia; her three nephews, Mark Cherry and his wife Christie of Reston, Virginia, Michael Cherry of Alexandria, Virginia, and Robert Cherry of Charlotte, North Carolina; her great-nephew Tyler Cherry; and countless beloved friends. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends were invited to visit June 24 and 25 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Hazlet. A prayer service was offered at the funeral home June 25.  Interment followed at Green Grove Cemetery, Keyport.
