Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend Clare Catherine Bowler Schumann passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, March 25, 2021. Clare was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Herbert Schumann, her parents James and Clare Bowler, and her brother, Edward Bowler.

She is survived by her daughters, Roberta Cleary of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Justine (Kevin) Starrett of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and Adrienne (Ray Hickman) Doherty of Red Bank. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sam Starrett (Whitney), James Starrett, Cameron Starrett and Christian Carroll and great-grandson Brady Carroll.

Clare will be deeply missed by her nieces, Mary Beth Bowler and Teresa Bowler, nephews Edward Bowler, Christopher (Linda) Bowler and Quinn Bowler, and by stepchildren Mark (Loretta) Schumann, Richard (Treacy) Schumann and Laura Schumann (Dan Pol) and their families.

Clare was a devout parishioner of St. James Church, Red Bank.

Clare was born in Jersey City, attended St. Dominic’s Academy and Notre Dame College, Staten Island. She retired after 30 years from the United States Post Office, Red Bank, worked as a real estate agent with Preferred Properties, Rumson, and as a travel agent with Sunrise Travel Center, Wall. Clare was an enthusiastic member of the Little Silver Women’s Club and Monmouth Boat Club.

Clare loved people, travel, entertaining and all things Irish. She was never happier than when she and Herb were hosting holiday get-togethers or traveling with friends and family, leading tours through Ireland, ski trips to Italy and Austria, just to name a few. Clare adored her grandchildren and they adored her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation was April 9 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 10 at St. James RC Church, Red Bank. Entombment followed at Holmdel Cemetery & Mausoleum, Holmdel.
