RED BANK – The Count Basie Theatre staff has announced its 2013 annual gala, called flick, a month-long celebration of film and the New Jersey film industry.
The event will kick-off at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, with a free screening of the documentary film Sound City and culminate with a gala celebration and concert on June 14 with six-time Grammy award and two-time Academy Award winner Randy Newman.
Tickets for the gala, which are $400, will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the 8 p.m. performance by Newman, followed by dinner, dancing and a live auction.
There will be several flick events in between, including a curated Q-and-A Actor’s Studio-type evening with Joe Pantoliano, aka “Joey Pants,” at 8 p.m. June 6 curated by John Bathke.
Proceeds from the flick gala will help upgrade the Basie with digital and satellite technology.
“The Count Basie Theatre has a rich history of film since its inception,” theater CEO Adam Philipson said. “This event will honor the contributions of film and filmmakers in the state – from directors to grips – and help move us into the 21st century.”
