Daryl Lynn Chechel, 42, of Holmdel, passed away at her home Aug. 24, 2025.
Daryl was born in Albany, New York, and raised on Long Island. She graduated from Holmdel High School and went on to study at Brookdale Community College, Virginia Wesleyan University and Penn State University. While working at Lowe’s in Holmdel, she met the love of her life, Dennis, and they later married in Holmdel. They spent eight years living in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before moving back to Holmdel.
Daryl was creative, bright, and had a passion for creating and playing games. She and her husband founded Rascal Games Studio, where they worked on various projects such as the card game “BLEEP!” She was also an avid reader and a member of reading communities on Discord. Daryl was fond of crafts, such as quilling and making ribbon angels.
She will be remembered by her friends and loved ones for her wit; she was charming but blunt. She loved her cats, especially her orange tabby “Cheddar Cheeps,” and enjoyed a good meal, particularly Swedish meatballs, poached fish or leg of lamb.
Daryl was preceded in death by her father, Allan Filippi. Surviving are her beloved husband, Dennis Chechel; her loving mother, Carol Filippi; and her beloved cat Cheddar Cheeps.
Visitation was held Sept. 2 at the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. A service was held Sept. 3 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Daryl’s memory to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org/ways-to-give.
