Dolores “Dolly” Alverson, née Henfey, 90, departed this world July 6, 2021, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Atlantic Highlands, she was born at home in 1930 to Philadelphia transplants Edward and Irene Henfey (née Bachmann), the third of four children.

Dolly was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help-Saint Agnes Church. She attended and graduated from St. Agnes School and went on to attend Atlantic Highlands High School on First Avenue. At the age of 15 she took summer employment at the Blindmens’ summer camp, Camp Happiness, in Leonardo. It was here she was introduced to the love of her life, Edward Norton Alverson of Leonardo. They married July 4, 1949, at the old St. Agnes church located on South Avenue in an elopement ceremony. According to Dolly, the years that followed were the happiest and best years of her life. 

Dolly was an accomplished homemaker and gardener and raised three children, Edward Jr., Robert William and Dolores Martha.

She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Irene Henfey; her husband Edward of 63 years in 2015; and her eldest son Edward Jr. in 1973. She is survived by her remaining children, Robert of Atlantic Highlands and Fleischmanns, New York; devoted daughter Dolores (Dee) of Atlantic Highlands and Tinton Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family scatter from here to Texas.       

Dolly’s services were provided by the Poston-McGinley Funeral Home in Atlantic Highlands. Guests and visitors were welcomed July 11 at the funeral home for visitation and a prayer service. Graveside services and burial took place July 12 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A reception lunch followed.
