Doreen M. Schumacher, age 74, of Middletown, died peacefully Nov. 11, 2021. She was born in Jersey City and resided in Middletown for 44 years. Doreen worked as a bookkeeper for Sunray Drugs and the city of West Long Branch until her retirement in 2016. She was educated at Brookdale Community College, was an avid reader, loved all animals, adored her dog Kona, and cherished her memories as a stay-at-home mom.
She enjoyed walking the boardwalk in Long Branch, loved vacationing on the beaches of Florida, and her favorite travels included Italy and Ireland. She was always up for a show on Broadway, and loved visiting New York City.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Heather Schumacher; her grandson Evan Schumacher; and her sister Judith Gaito Celenza. Doreen was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Charles Schumacher; her sister Gail Gaito; and her father and mother Nicolas and Clara Gaito.
Per Doreen’s requests, visitation was held Nov. 16 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy was offered Nov. 16 at St. Mary Mother of God Church, Middletown. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doreen’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
