Douglas J. Spitz of Rumson passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on the evening of Aug. 19, 2022 at the age of 56. During the last year of his life, Doug bravely battled brain cancer with the support of his loving family. He embraced life with kindness, integrity, generosity and adventure.

Doug was born March 15, 1966, in Trenton to Phylis and John Spitz. He was raised in Long Branch where he enjoyed playing football and picked up his lifelong hobby of fishing. Doug graduated from Long Branch High School, Class of 1984, and continued his education at The College of New Jersey, Class of 1988.

After graduating from college, Doug started his successful career on Wall Street. He was an institutional bond trader for 17 years. He went on to head the mortgage-backed bond desk at Nomura Securities International. Doug’s work ethic, intellectual aptitude, and ability to partner enabled him to start his own successful firm. Doug co-founded Edge Wealth Management LLC in the fall of 2006. As a principal and co-founder, Doug took great joy from working with his partners, team and clients.

In his personal life, Doug was a devoted, loving husband to his beautiful wife of 28 years Cindy, and a caring and dedicated father to their son John. Doug is survived by his mother Phyllis and his sister Valerie. Doug was predeceased by his father John Spitz, his maternal grandparents William and Mary Paduano, and his paternal grandparents John and Helen Spitz.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Doug cherished every second he was able to spend doing the things he loved most, which included fishing with his son, biking and playing hockey. Doug loved an adventure and experiencing new places, especially those that had good fishing. Doug was beloved and cherished by all those who knew him.

A memorial Mass was held in Doug’s honor Aug. 25 at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Douglas Spitz to Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Howard Fine, brain tumor research.
