Douglas Joseph Hollywood, 81, of Little Silver, passed away at his home Aug. 13, 2021. He was born in Newark to the late George Hollywood and Cecilia Cogavin.

After serving his country in the United States Army, Douglas went on to have a successful career as a banker, most recently as a vice president with Bankers Trust in New York City. Upon retiring from banking, Douglas obtained his master’s degree and began a second career teaching history at St. Rose High School in Belmar.

Douglas was an active member in his community, belonging to various organizations, such as the Briody Brunch, Root Beer and Checker Club, Kiwanis Club, and the Knights of Columbus of Fair Haven. Additionally, he was a dedicated member of Church of the Nativity, where he was also a reader.

Douglas was predeceased by his parents and his brother Andrew Hollywood. He is survived by his beloved wife Maryalice Hollywood; his son Michael Hollywood (Lisa); his daughters Kathleen Nelson (John) and Eileen Hollywood; his sister Barbara Oakerson (William); and his four grandchildren, Christopher Nelson (Maria), Katie Nelson, Nick Hollywood and Dylan Hollywood; as well as his two great-grandchildren, Michael Nelson and Connor Nelson.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank. Visitation was held at Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven Aug. 18, followed by a Mass with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Douglas’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
