Dr. Jacob Herz

Dr. Jacob Herz, of Fleischmanns, New York, formerly of Middletown, died June 13, 2021, at his home. He had been ill for the last eight years and was recently diagnosed with cancer. Upon getting the diagnosis, Jacob chose not to have any medical treatments and was cared for until the end by his wife of 64 years, Glenna. He is finally at peace.

At Jacob’s request, there will be no service or funeral arrangements. He wished to be cremated and have his ashes placed in unique locations.

Jacob graduated in 1955 from Teaneck High School where he was editor of the yearbook. He went to the University of Denver and then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania dental school. He served in the United State Air Force as a captain from 1961 to 1963. He practiced dentistry in Middletown for 26 years.

Jacob’s talents and interests were numerous. He was a baseball coach for the Pioneer League, Little League and Ed Carlton Baseball from 1969 to 1982. He was an avid golfer, a handicapper of horses and liked to go camping with his family each year in August. He played piano, violin and cello. He was a yearly subscriber to the Metropolitan Opera. He enjoyed woodworking and furniture restoration. Each day he did the New York Times crossword puzzle. 

He leaves behind his wife Glenna; his sons Ben Herz (Paula Jackson Herz) and Matthew Herz; and grandchildren Jeremy, Emma and Sophia. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation remembering Jacob Herz can be set to the Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsy Association (HVCPA) for students with disabilities and autism at HVCPA, 40 Jon Barrett Road, Patterson, NY 12563. If you choose to make a donation, please include a note or memo on the check saying “In memory of Jacob Herz.”
