Matthew Joseph Eckert, 23, of Holmdel passed away in his home with his family Aug. 3.

Matthew was born Oct. 23, 1995, to loving parents Dianne and Michael Eckert. 

Matthew excelled at sports throughout his life and loved all of his teammates and experiences he shared with them. He graduated from Mater Dei Prep in 2014 and was the baseball’s teams MVP for the 2014 season. He had 11 varsity letters for football (4), baseball (4) and basketball (3). His infectious laugh and giant smile lit up the classrooms and hallways of Mater Dei. 

Matt was working as a cook at The Proving Ground in Atlantic Highlands where he considered his coworkers a part of his family. 

Matt would say he was most proud of his friends and his family for their various accomplishments and following their dreams.

Matt is survived by his loving parents Dianne and Michael Eckert. His brothers, Michael Richard Eckert and John Eckert. His sister Skyelar McArtney. His grandparents Michael and Carol Ciasca and Rosemarie Eckert and Raymond Alonzo. His uncle Mike Ciasca and aunt Nancy Ciasca his aunt Jackie and uncle Glen Burbank, uncle Rich Eckert and aunts Gail and Dawn Eckert. He is also survived by his first cousins Tom Conley, Patrick Conley, Bella Burbank, Cristiana Ciasca, Ken Eckert and Eamonn Eckert. 

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandfather Richard Eckert and childhood friend Graeme Preston.

The Eckert family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love during this devastating time and truly believe that is a true testament to Matt’s love he shared with so many people.

Matthew will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Route 35, Middletown, Saturday Aug. 10, 2019 from 2 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday Aug. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Mother of God Church. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet.
