Rosemary B. Edelen of Middletown passed away on Thursday, June 4 at Riverview Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, Rosemary moved to Middlet own to raise her family and resided there for more than 50 years. She was a communi- cant of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank. Rosemary was an alumnus of St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City and later graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth with a B.S. degree in business adminis- tration. She began her career as a legal secretary at Colgate Palmolive Company and later got her elementary education degree and taught for 23 years as a third grade teacher in Middletown Township. After retiring, Rosemary kept active by joining a reading program within Middletown Township called Reading Buddies. Rosemary enjoyed traveling, the theater, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and enjoyed various activities with her friends and family. Rosemary was predeceased by her husband, James J, Edelen Jr.; and her parents, Louis and Marie Contey. She is survived by her daughters, M. Barbara and Marybeth Edelen of Middletown; her sons, William M. Edelen of Brick and James J. Edelen III and his wife, Cynthia, of Jamison, Pa.; her grandchildren, James, Jessica, Christopher, Scott and Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren, William and Colin. Visitation was held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, on Tuesday, June 9. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. James Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 10.
