Edward C. Apy, age 88, of Tinton Falls, passed away Nov. 18, 2024.
Ed was born in Long Branch to the late Chester and Grace (Wiseburn) Apy. He attended Little Silver schools, The Peddie School, and was a graduate of Red Bank High School Class of 1956. He earned his degree from New York Finance Institute. Ed became a member of both the New York and American Stock Exchanges, serving on the board of elections.
He honorably served the country in the U.S. Army Special Services in Germany during the Korean War.
Having been raised in Little Silver, Ed spent the majority of his time on the two rivers sailing, ice boating and skating. All three sports prepared him for future success. Ed became a National Champion in sailing and ice boating. He was an ice hockey power skating professional and a coach and established both women’s and girls’ hockey teams.
He and his wife Sharon shared many mutual interests, including tennis, platform tennis, golf and earning their private pilots’ licenses.
Ed was predeceased by his brothers, Chester, Arthur and Douglas, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Irene Hughes, and Helen Apy, his former wife and mother of Edward and Karen.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon Hughes Apy; their children, Melissa (Casey) Friedman, Megan (Michael) Capro, Mary (Gregory) Aikins, Karen Apy and Edward (Kathy) Apy Jr.; his grandchildren, Rachel Friedman, Wyatt and Luke Capro, Charles Apy, Claire and Alden Aikins, Nicole and Ryan Cebulko and Courtney Glubo; three great-grandchildren; and in-laws, David (Helen) Hughes and George (Nicky) Hughes.
Family and friends visited Nov. 24 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ed’s life was held Nov. 25 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Red Bank. Interment was private.
