Edward (Ted) Whiting Chapin of New York City and Rumson, died Dec. 28, 2020 at the age of 89. He was the youngest son of Neil Chapin Sr. and Ruth Whiting Green. His brother Neil Chapin Jr. predeceased him.

Ted was the loving and beloved husband to Nicky (Ethel Stout) for 63 years. He was the father of Edward Jr., Bayard and Bruce; father-in-law to Nina and Lauren. Ted was a devoted grandfather of Margo, Bailey and Varick, offering advice on academics and playing countless games of chess and checkers, which they had to really work hard to win. Ted graduated from Phillips Academy Andover, Yale University Class of 1954 and Virginia Law School Class of 1957. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and practiced corporate law his entire career. His last position was vice president, general counsel and secretary of Broadcast Music, Inc.

In his retirement, Ted volunteered as an arbitrator in the New York State Court system. An avid athlete his entire life, Ted was an active tennis player, swimmer, golfer and bicyclist as well as paddle tennis and ski enthusiast. As a traveler, accompanying his wife on many of her organized group trips, he was able to enjoy much of the world. He enjoyed membership in the Rumson Country Club, The Seabright Beach Club and The Seabright Tennis Club.
