Elizabeth “Betty” N. Murphy, 86, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lincroft in Middletown May 8, 2021. 

She was born in Red Bank to the late Fredrick F. and Helen (Whinney) Farwell and she was a lifelong resident of Rumson before moving to Middletown. 

Betty loved domestic life and enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening; but more than anything, she enjoyed her family. 

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband William R. Murphy; her son William R. “Dobber” Murphy III; her grandson Travis J. Sherman; and both of her brothers, Fredrick F. “Fritz” Farwell and Robert S. Farwell. 

Surviving are her daughters, Bambi L. Lombardy (Francis) of Middletown and Marie Marrazzo (Jeffrey) of Red Bank; her brother James Farwell (Jill) of Toms River; five grandchildren: Jesse Sherman, Rebecca Sherman (Darius Fardella), Meredith Marrazzo (Ryan Hart), Emilie Marrazzo (Zachary Humbert) and Meriah Murphy (Connor Schembor); four great-grandchildren: Benjamin Corbet, Cole Graf, Nikolas “Niko” Marrazzo and Mikel Hart; as well as her cats, Simon and Otis. 

All arrangements are private and under the direction of the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Betty’s memory to the Oceanic Hook and Ladder Fire Company, 25 West River Road, Rumson, NJ 07760.
