FAIR HAVEN – The Jack Moore Fitness Challenge, now in its third year, took place Aug. 10 at Fair Haven Fields. The challenge was started by Robert and Christine Moore to keep their son Jack’s love of fitness and competition alive after his death and to promote mental health and wellness and suicide awareness.

For $20 per person, teams of four to eight of all ages competed against each other doing burpees, pushups, the battle rope and a massive tug-of-war, among other events. Money raised from the event benefits the Friends of Jack Moore Scholarship Fund as well as the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County.

At the end of the three-hour challenge, Christine Moore reminded all in attendance about the importance of reaching out and checking on someone you think might need a little extra support. That simple act could mean the world to a person dealing with depression. If you or someone you know is in emotional distress, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or NJ Hopeline at 855-654-6735 and remember, you are not alone.
