Frederick D. Makin II, fondly known as Rick, a resident of Luftman Towers in Lincroft, died Dec. 27 due to complications of COVID-19. Rick had been an editorial and entertainment editor for the Asbury Park Press for 38 years. Rick was a 1957 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and alumnus of Bowdoin College. He was an actor and singer in 50 musicals and plays for Red Oak Music Theatre, Phoenix Productions, Premier Theatre Co., First Avenue Playhouse, Monmouth Civic Chorus and Highlands Singers. He was director and advisory board member of Keyport Senior Center Chorus. He also was a member of the Tower Hill Church Choir in Red Bank. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn Marston and George Makin, and stepmother Irene. Rick is survived by his adoring wife Corinne (Comparato) Makin; his loving children, son Bob Makin and wife Alliene Lee, and daughters Dr. Melissa Sannelli and husband Tom, Lisa Knopf and husband Jon, and Linnea Teetsel and husband Gary; cherished grandchildren, Matthew Makin and wife Christina Lupo, Rebekah Makin and boyfriend Aaron Warmbrand, Matt Ellenberg and wife Julie, Daniel Ellenberg, Eli and Michael Sannelli, Lauren and Julia Kopf and Ashleigh and Erika Teetsel; adored great-granddaughter Piper Ellenberg; and former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Zitomer Makin. 

Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet. In respect of Rick’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. For information or to send condolences to the family, please visit, shorepointfh.com.
