Gene Joseph Foran

Mr. Gene Joseph Foran, 77, husband of Penny Foran, passed away Sept. 11 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Born April 7, 1943 in Jersey City, he was the son of the late William Joseph Foran and Virginia Moran Foran. Mr. Foran was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and Monmouth University. He was a former investment banker and vice president with Bankers Trust and Bank of New York Mellon. Prior to moving to Pawleys Island in 2009, he resided in Little Silver where he raised his family. Mr. Foran enjoyed golfing, local beaches and cherished spending time with his friends and family. 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Kevin Foran and his wife Jackie of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; one daughter Megan Atkins and her husband David of Darien, Connecticut; and one stepson, Matthew Hoffer and his wife Kim of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Neal Fisher, Bryn Hoffer, Presley Hoffer, Ted Foran, Beatrice Atkins, and Joey Foran; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pam and Noel Bird of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; two lifelong buddies, Peter Clark and Jimmy Dooley; and longtime beach buddy Laura Oakes. 

Due to concerns over the current COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
