General Assignment Reporter (Part-Time)

Job Description

The Two River Times has an opening for an enthusiastic reporter who loves local news and telling stories that matter. We have a highly engaged, loyal audience that looks forward to reading us every week.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect, verify, and analyze newsworthy information.
  • Receive assignments or investigate news leads/tips. Assemble findings into a stable story.
  • Conduct interviews by phone and in person.
  • Report daily to the office, but also be available to work flexible hours to attend meetings or news events on the weekends when necessary.
  • Develop sources, follow assigned beats. Work for features, sports, education when requested.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Work with editors on finalizing copy.
  • Utilize Mac laptop and take photos.
  • Publicize online stories through personal social media channels, i.e. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Learn how to use WordPress in order to work on the newspaper’s website directly.
  • Cooperate with reporters, chief editor, producers etc. and represent the Two River Times in a professional manner when meeting the public.
  • Participate in newsroom meetings, contests, social events and offer contributions to the paper’s growth.
