George H. Gillam III, age 64, of Belford, passed away March 10, 2024, at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born Nov. 20, 1959, on Fort Sill, Oklahoma, while his father was stationed there. The family returned to Belford when George was just an infant.

George was a proud career veteran who served in the Army Air Force during Desert Storm. He was never seen without his Army hat and jacket on. After retiring from the military, the skills he learned as a helicopter mechanic gave George the ability to open his own mechanic shop, Gillam Enterprises, which had a successful marine repair business.

He was known for his dry sense of humor and love for socializing. George was a member of the VFW 4303 in Hazlet and the VFW 2179 in Port Monmouth, where he spent time with friends at the bars.

George enjoyed fishing down at the docks in Belford and was a familiar face in the community. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lena, their four daughters, Lena, Michelle, Sharon and Darlene, as well as his three granddaughters, Kairi, Brooklyn and Hannah. He also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Tracey Gillam, and two nephews, Lewis Jr. and Michael. George was predeceased by his parents, George Gillam Jr. and Dora Gillam, and his sister Dorene Cafiero.

Friends and family paid their respects March 14 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A service concluded the evening, followed by a private cremation.
