Harvey C. Tilton Jr. of Rumson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Jan. 22, 2024, at the age of 89.

Harvey was born in 1934 to Elizabeth and Harvey Tilton Sr. in Rumson, where he grew up, attended the town schools, helped with the family business, spent time fishing and crabbing on the river from his backyard, made lifetime friendships and shared many incredible stories with everyone he came in contact with.

Harvey liked to work on cars so those who were friends with him in his younger days knew of his exciting drag racing days and his amazing race cars. Throughout Harvey’s life he very much enjoyed softball, clamming, gun club, crabbing, bowling for the firehouse league, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Harvey worked for the New Jersey National Guard for 33 years and for 15 years as a Fair Haven Crossing Guard, which he loved and which brought him much happiness. He was a lifelong member of Rumson First Aid Squad, serving as captain, a 34-year member of Fair Haven Fire Department, and a Lions Club member.

Harvey will always be remembered for his continuous smile, kind heart, always lending a hand to those in need, being an amazing friend, and always brightening our days. His memory will live in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Harvey Sr., and his precious granddaughter Madalyn Massabni.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine, son Harvey III, daughter Dawn Massabni, grandson George Massabni and other beloved family members.

Visitation was Jan. 30 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A graveside service was held Jan. 31 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Donations to the “Helping Harvey Tilton Jr.” fund at gofundme.com to help the family cover expenses or The Maddy Massabni Foundation for Toxic Shock Awareness at dontshockme.org, the foundation created to honor his granddaughter for educating and creating awareness of Menstrual Toxic Shock Syndrome, are greatly appreciated.
