RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN – A one-day yoga event to collect nonperishable food donations for the Monmouth County SPCA and the Food Bank and showcase talented, enthusiastic local yoga instructors is being held from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 16 at the Rumson-Fair Haven High School Gym.
Headstands for Hunger was created by Vanessa Van Noy, a local instructor and Lululemon ambassador with a strong desire to help people and animals in need. The concept is powerfully simple: Flow to Feed.
Last year almost 100 people came to practice yoga, raise awareness and donate more than 1,500 pounds of food for hungry people and animals. This year Van Noy expects an even bigger turnout.
“It is important for the local yoga community to stand together and serve the greater good,” said Van Noy. “Karma means service in action. It is an integral part of our daily teachings and a core part of the practice.  Intentions are good, but actions matter more.”
Headstands for Hunger will showcase several teachers and styles of yoga that are practiced throughout Monmouth County. Instructors will include Jen Portman from Synergy Hot Yoga, Maria Doucette from Power Yoga Center, Stacey Wade from Yoga Bliss, Serena Soffer from Inlet Yoga and Release Yoga, Denise Tranchina from Blue Moon Yoga and Jodi Kobrin from Release Yoga. Also instructing is Jersey Shore Hot Yoga’s Adam Sobel, owner of Cinnamon Snail, the vegan organic food truck.
One hundred percent of the donations made will go to the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
