On Nov. 23, 2021, Helen Bosshard Malone passed away peacefully in her home in Chester, Connecticut. Helen was born Feb. 17, 1927, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late John Jacob Bosshard and Mary Weber Bosshard.
Helen primarily grew up in Tenafly where she graduated from Tenafly High in 1945. After high school Helen enjoyed many interesting jobs. She worked for Fred Waring, the band leader, at the Shawnee Inn in Shawnee, Pennsylvania. She then worked for NBC doing clerical work but was selected to do several live commercials in very early television. Her favorites were the Schaefer beer commercial during a Brooklyn Dodgers broadcast and Chiquita banana.
In 1952 she met Larry Malone and they were married Jan. 24, 1953. They were married for 57 years. She and Larry raised three children primarily living in Rumson. Helen was a wonderful mother and there are great memories of spending summers at the beach.
She was an avid animal lover. One of her favorite times was her trip with her daughter Jane to Africa where she got to see her favorite animals in person. She loved golf and playing paddle tennis. In her final years she moved to Connecticut to be close to her son Larry and his family.
Helen felt helping others in her community was very important. She was a very active volunteer with Planned Parenthood, as well as a founding member of Commuters Wives, a group that brought attention to the extremely poor train service to the Jersey Shore and which helped to bring about much needed improvements. In addition, she was proud of the over 2,000 hours she volunteered at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Richard Malone, her son Gregory James Malone, and her daughter Jane Catherine Malone. She is survived by her son Lawrence John Malone and his wife Janis of Clinton, Connecticut; and grandchildren Katie Frances Malone, Lawrence Day Malone and his wife Colleen, and Meghan Geneva Misar and her husband Darren. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Callie Day Malone and Kristen Raelyn Misar.
The family will have a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Helen’s memory to Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724 or to The Elephant Sanctuary, P.O. Box 393, Hohenwald, TN 38462.
