Henry Clay Potter, 64, of Highlands, passed away unexpectedly July 27, 2022. The son of the late Gordon and Dady Potter, Henry was born and raised in Rumson and attended South Kent School and Ripon College.

Henry initially worked at the Chicago exchanges but soon focused his professional pursuits on financial investing, a field he maintained considerable interest in throughout his life.

An avid sailor from an early age, Henry could often be found sailing and racing small boats on the Shrewsbury and Navesink Rivers and, more recently, would spend considerable time sailing his sloop in and around Raritan Bay. He was a friend to many and a person who always was ready to lend a helping hand. During his father’s illnesses, Henry became the primary caregiver, for which his family is eternally grateful.

He is survived by his brothers, Gordon (Nancy) and William (Patty); his sister Louise; three stepsisters, Allison (Steve) Friedel, Cynthia (Danny) Slack and Elizabeth Riker; stepsister-in-law Maggie Riker; as well as nine nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews.

His stepbrother, William Riker, predeceased him.

His burial will be private and a celebration of Henry’s life will be held at a time and place to be determined.
