Hochstuhl, Eileen S., Age: 96, New York City

544

Surrounded by family, Eileen S. Hochstuhl (neé Sivori), 96, joined our Lord April 30. She was born in New York City.

Independent and looking for adventure, Eileen enlisted in the Navy Waves in February 1943.  She traveled by bus to Cedar Falls, Iowa for basic training. Her training and quest to fly planes ultimately took her to Georgia and on to Pensacola, Florida. There she trained aspiring pilots in the simulator. One of those young cadets would be her future husband, despite being quoted as saying “get lost cadet” to William C. Hochstuhl’s overtures. Eileen earned her pilot’s license in 1947.

She and Bill married Nov. 16, 1945 and raised four daughters. They resided in Lee, Massachusetts before moving to Aruba where they lived for 14 years, then Houston, and later to Middletown, where they lived for the past 51 years.

Eileen was a devoted and loving mother. She was an avid golfer and bridge enthusiast as well as a very accomplished seamstress. She loved to cook.

After nearly 70 years of marriage, Eileen was predeceased by her husband Bill March 2, 2014.  Her enthusiasm for life lives on in her four girls: Jane and her husband William Getty and their four children; Jill Fabel; Jessica and her husband Richard Nicoletti and their three children; and Jennifer and her husband John Hinck and their three children. Eileen was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom kept her smiling to the end.

Eileen’s life was celebrated, with military honors, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank, May 6.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Stephen I. Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306-3100 or tunnel2towers.org.

Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
