Kenneth S. Hopwood Jr., 78, a longtime resident of Port Monmouth, passed away June 9 at his home. Ken was born Sept. 29, 1940 in Neptune, a son of the late Florence and Kenneth S. Hopwood Sr. He lived in Toms River before settling in Port Monmouth 41 years ago.

Ken served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves during the 1960s. He was a clerk for the United States Postal Service and worked out of the Red Bank Post Office. He was also the secretary for the Postal Employees Credit Union. When he was not busy working, Ken enjoyed bowling with his friends, but his favorite pastime was spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to getting his grandchildren to school every morning.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Lorraine Hopwood. He also leaves behind three sons: Kenneth J. Hopwood and his wife Kim of Freehold; Kristopher Hopwood and his wife Lauren of Belford; and Andrew Hopwood of Port Monmouth. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Marjorie Harney of Toms River, his brother Thomas Hopwood of Texas, and his adored grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel, Landon, Gianna and Dillon.

Ken was predeceased by his brothers Wilfrid and Robert.

Friends and relatives paid their respects June 11 and 12 prior to a funeral service which was held at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, Belford. A private cremation followed.
