Irene Nordskog

Irene Nordskog, 71, of Rumson, passed away March 4, 2022 at Riverview Medical Center with family by her side. She was born Feb. 28, 1951 in Brooklyn to the late Steffen and Marie (née Sveen) Nordskog.

Irene graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in 1967, Hunter College in 1971 with a major in history, and Monmouth University in 1993 with an M.A. in education. Irene worked in various publishing and printing companies early in her career before becoming a fulltime homemaker and a stay-at-home mom. When her daughters became older, she returned to work in the foreign language department at Monmouth University and held various other positions until she retired as an executive assistant to the CEO of the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Tinton Falls.

Irene was an avid reader and was never without a book and several books as back-ups. She was an aggressive walker, logging 2 miles each morning at dawn, and enjoyed hikes in local parks with family and friends. Irene was a devoted Sunday school teacher and loved working with children. She enjoyed her travel adventures with her husband to various European countries and to Arizona and neighboring states to visit her daughters. She was a natural caregiver, assuring the comfort of her family, friends, pets and her many houseplants. Irene volunteered at Calico Cat, a charity thrift store in Middletown, and was an active member of the Lincroft Presbyterian Church.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving Irene is her loving husband of 44 years, Frank Munn, and her daughters Katherine Nordskog Dormandy and her husband Michael of Innsbruck, Austria, and Ellen Nordskog McDow of Gilbert, Arizona. Also surviving Irene are her sisters, Liv Wilson and her husband Dave of Holmdel, and Sissel Bohman of Middletown.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. March 17 at the Lincroft Presbyterian Church, 270 Everett Road, Lincroft. In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to The Community Outreach Group, P.O.
