
James “Jim” F. Hughes, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Long Branch Oct. 20.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Janet E. Hughes, his son James D. Hughes, his brothers Gerald Hughes and Andrew Hughes and sister Mary.
Jim is survived by his son Kevin P. Hughes and his wife Deborah of Middletown. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Maria, Mark and Megan and their mother Susan Hughes, all in Florida; siblings John V. Hughes of Clifton and Nancy Downie of Bayonne, sister-in-law Carol Hughes of Buffalo, New York and their families.
Jim was born and raised in Jersey City to the late James and Mary (McGinley) Hughes. He graduated Seton Hall University and worked over 40 years for New Jersey State Safety Council, Cranford, retiring as director, safety education.
Jim was a devoted husband to his wife Janet and was a past resident of Little Silver where they raised their family. Jim was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady Star of Sea Church in Long Branch.
The Hughes family would like to sincerely thank Jim’s home health aide Claudia Cooper, as well as the staff of VNA of Central Jersey, who lovingly cared for him.
In accordance with his wishes, Jim will have a private cremation.
