Jean C. Simes née Crayton, 84, a longtime resident of Little Silver, passed away peacefully Feb. 6, 2026.
Born Jan. 19, 1942, in Rochester, New York, Jean graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1964 and married the love of her life, James H. Simes, that August. They shared 57 devoted years of marriage until Jim’s passing in 2021.
Jean dedicated 25 years to the Middletown Township Public School District, teaching math and computer science at Middletown High School South. A patient and encouraging educator, she inspired generations of students with her steady support and genuine care.
Deeply committed to her community, Jean was a longtime member of Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club, the Junior League of Monmouth County, and Ship Ahoy Beach Club. She also served on the Monmouth Day Care Center Board of Trustees beginning in 2013, including as first vice president of operations, and was later named to its honorary board.
Above all, Jean was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Compassionate, supportive, inquisitive and joyful, she always treasured time together. Her kindness, steady encouragement and deep love for her family and friends will be remembered always.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim. She is survived by her children, William and Michelle Simes of California, and Laurie and PJ Rogers of New Jersey; her sister, Carolyn and Robert McVoy of Massachusetts; her cherished grandchildren, Kalia, Avery, Devon and Colin; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters and brothers-in-law.
A celebration of life will be held locally in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jean’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
