Jersey Shore Meets Bill – Shakespeare, That is

RED BANK – Red Bank Catholic High School’s Casey Players are taking on the unique challenge of retelling the Shakespearean classic, “Midsummer Night’s Dream” but with a more familiar setting and cast of characters.
“Midsummer/Jersey” is the hilarious high-octane retelling of Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” set on the boardwalk of a seaside town in modern-day New Jersey. The story revolves around the impending marriage of New Jersey Governor, the love affairs of four beach-bound high school crushes, a lively crew of fairies and the staff of the local beauty salon run by Patti Quince and stylist Nikki Bottom. The night takes a magical turn when Oberon, king of the fairies, and the impish Puck arrive on the scene armed with a powerful love potion and a desire for mischief-making, inspired by Oberon’s desire to settle the score with his wife, the ever-powerful fairy queen, Titania.
With several weddings and the acting careers of six beauticians hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk, backed by pop music and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.
The modern adaptation of the classic Shakespearean comedy will be sure to keep audiences on their toes and in stitches – and quite possibly on their feet “fist pumping.”
Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, and 8 p.m. Saturday Nov. 23, in the historic Red Bank Catholic Broad Street Auditorium, 112 Broad St.
Tickets will be available at the door.
