John Edward Rue Jr., 86, of Atlantic Highlands, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Nov. 1, 2024. He was born in Trenton and moved to Atlantic Highlands where he and his wife Gail raised their family.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his service he was a member of Teamsters Local 701. He worked as a dock worker for Carolina Freight Carrier for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his daughter Diane Rue; son Paul Rue; brother Wayne Rue; grandchildren, Christopher Rue, Danielle Kane and Michelle Rue; and five great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Gail, his son John Rue III, and his grandson Alex E. Rue.
Visitation was held Nov. 6 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo.
