John Farrell, 77, of Middletown, passed away Sept. 9, 2021. Born in Perth Amboy, he graduated Freehold Regional High School where he was a three-letter sportsman. John attended the University of Sioux Falls and received a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from Hamilton University.

John was a patrolman and detective sergeant for the Marlboro Police Department and a patrolman for the Manalapan Police Department. He ended a 20-plus-year career as an environmental engineer with Lucent Technologies in Holmdel in 2008.

John was a member of St. Mary Mother of God Church in the New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing three sports throughout his life. He enjoyed watching the Yankees and Giants with his son Robert.

John was predeceased by his parents, Florence and James, his brother Patrick and sister Mary. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Eileen; his son Robert and his wife Stephanie; his brother Charley and his wife Gayle; and his favorite dog Jack Black.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Cremation will be private.
