John Rowan, 81, of Fair Haven, passed away peacefully Dec. 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Atlantic Highlands, John graduated from Atlantic Highlands High School. He was the son of the late Walter and Margaret Rowan.

John was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Rowan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Susan, by his children, William (Nicole) Rowan of Fair Haven and Shannon (Andrew) Rockafellow of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and his cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Charlotte, Henry, Addison and John. John also leaves behind his brother Thomas (Margaret “Peg”) Rowan of Seattle, Washington.

A retired veteran, John served his country with honor before dedicating over 50 years to the family business he built and proudly operated. An avid fisherman, his happiest moments were spent casting a line with his son. For years, you could find him on the sidelines, never missing a moment of his daughter’s soccer games. In his later years, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren or relaxing on the porch with his beloved granddog Miller. John was also a longtime member of Ship Ahoy Beach Club and a devoted Yankees fan – except, as he often joked, when they were losing.

More than anything, John’s greatest pride was his family. His humor, warmth and steadfast love will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Per his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monmouth County SPCA at monmouthcountyspca.org in John’s memory, reflecting his kind and compassionate spirit. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank has been entrusted with the arrangements.
