John V. Scala, 76, of Middletown, passed away March 18, 2021. John was born Feb. 8, 1945, in Newark. He lived most of his life in Dunellen. After retiring, he settled in Middletown.

John started his career working with computers in the Information Technology department of Johnson & Johnson. He then transferred to the IT department at Merck, Sharp and Dohme in Rahway, from where he retired nearly 20 years ago.

John enjoyed spending time at home and even working on his home; he was very handy. He was also very artistic and liked drawing and model ship building. He was known for his great cooking and he was especially proud of his pasta fagioli. John may have been known for being stubborn or a sarcastic jokester, but he will always be remembered as being a loving and devoted father and grandfather.

John is survived by his daughter, Donna Scala, of Hazlet, and his brother, Ronald Scala, of Pennsylvania. John also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Jennifer Lynn, Kayla Rose and Matthew.

John was predeceased by his two sons, John and Michael.

Friends and relatives paid their respects March 27 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. The afternoon concluded with a funeral service and a private cremation followed.
