John Vincent Hoey III passed away April 26, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Oct. 13, 1946, in Teaneck and grew up in Dumont. In the early 1970s, John moved to Monmouth County and became a longtime resident of Long Branch.

John developed a love of golf at a young age while working as a caddy at a nearby golf club. One of the regular golf members encouraged John to seek a job on Wall Street after high school and he began his career as a page on the New York Stock Exchange floor on his 18th birthday. John rose through the ranks and became a specialist on the NYSE floor, eventually becoming a member in 1986 when he purchased his seat on the exchange. He worked for several specialist firms and retired in 1998 as a managing partner of Lawrence, O’Donnell, and Marcus, LLC.

John was a very proud man and always a gentleman. Throughout his career, he enjoyed hosting family, friends and community members on the NYSE floor and he genuinely loved what he did for a living. Nearly every day of his 33 years on Wall Street he would say that he couldn’t wait to go to work.

After retiring to Marco Island and later Naples, Florida, John kept himself busy pursuing his love of golf and serving his community. He generously gave back as a Collier County mediator in small claims court and volunteered with many local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the First Tee of Collier County, Avow Hospice, Naples Community Hospital (NHC), and NCH’s Bear’s Den preschool as a teacher’s aide. During one holiday season, John festively rang the giving bell for the Salvation Army outside the local grocery store.

John served on numerous boards, including condominium associations, golf clubs, charitable organizations, and a community bank. He was also a member of several golf clubs throughout his lifetime, including Beacon Hill (Highlands), The Island Club (Marco Island, Flordia), and Bay Colony (Naples, Florida). John loved golf not only for the game but also for the camaraderie.

Above all, John loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of nearly 30 years, Nancy Hoey; his stepdaughters, Stephanie Palmeri and Allyson Anderson and their families; his mother Lucille Hoey; his brother Timothy Hoey; three sisters, Kathleen Higgins, Eileen Byrne, and Theresa Komlo and their families; and his sister-in-law Eileen and her family. He was predeceased by his father, John V. Hoey II and his brother Patrick Hoey.

John was quick with a joke and known for his witty one-liners. He was a generous, kind and gentle man who never hesitated to help a family member, friend or stranger in a time of need. He always found the good in people and was happiest when he brought joy to others, which he did often.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s honor to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
