Joseph F. Hegner of Little Silver died July 18, 2021, at Jersey Shore University Hospital. He was born in Arlington, the son of Joseph and Alice Hegner, and he is survived by his wife of 50 years Maryleigh Hegner; his son Andrew (Rachel); and two daughters, Allison and Lauren (Alex).

Joe was raised in Arlington. He attended St. Benedict’s Preparatory School and went on to graduate from Rutgers University. After serving in the U.S. Army, he began his career at United Airlines. Loving both the airline industry and traveling, he remained with United for the next 45 years, which included executing all travel arrangements for the New York Giants.

Besides being an avid Giants fan, he loved jazz, big band music, traveling and the beach.

Joe embraced life, and could often be found at a parade or concert. He had a knack for viewing the ordinary as extraordinary and never passed up a chance to enjoy life. He instilled in his children a great appreciation for coffee ice cream, varied musical genres and travel.

A celebration of Joe’s life was held July 22 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Joe’s name to Children International, 200 East Red Bridge Road, P.O. Box 219055, Kansas City, MO 64121 or a charity of your choice.
