It is with profound sorrow that the family of Joseph Glynn Sr., of Middletown, formerly of Atlantic Highlands, announced his untimely passing July 5, 2026.
Joseph was born Aug. 11, 1963, in Elizabeth. He grew up in Atlantic Highlands, where he later raised his family, before moving to Middletown and eventually retiring in Whiting. Joe possessed an unwavering drive to help others and dedicated much of his life to serving his community.
He began his career with the Middletown Township Police Department in 1990, where he served with dedication and pride for nearly three decades. He rose to the rank of police sergeant before his retirement in 2018. In addition to his service in law enforcement, Joe was a volunteer firefighter with the Atlantic Highlands and Middletown fire departments beginning in 1985. In addition, he was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge No. 2179. His commitment to public service was a true reflection of his character.
Joe was known for his strong personality, his loyalty to those he cared about, and his lifelong commitment to service. He built lasting friendships throughout his years and will be remembered by many for his dedication to his community, his sense of humor, and the impact he made through his work in law enforcement and the fire service.
Joe was predeceased by his father, Joseph K. Glynn.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly Glynn; his children, Joseph Glynn and Christele (who are expecting Joe’s eighth grandchild), Michael Glynn and Lurene, and Ashley Glynn; his grandchildren, Kylie, Joseph, Madalyn, Jaxson, Emmie Joan, Cody, and Scarlett; and his former spouse, Lynn Glynn.
Visitation was held July 10 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A prayer service was held July 11 at the funeral home.
