Karl Andrew Marszalowicz

Karl Andrew Marszalowicz died peacefully in his sleep Aug. 2, 2022, at the age of 43 after struggling with the effects of tuberous sclerosis complex for decades. Born in Red Bank, he spent his youth in Middletown and later divided his time between there and Toms River.

An Eagle Scout and winner of both the Bronze and Silver Congressional Awards, he was a proud graduate of Mater Dei High School, Brookdale Community College and Monmouth University. He was a prolific poet and ambitious story writer. His first novel, “Culture-Z,” was published by Black Rose Writing in 2018 and there were others in the works.

When not at his desk he enjoyed taking long walks, listening to an eclectic variety of music, watching sports, playing games and helping others. Most of all, he strived to make people smile. With an unpredictable sense of humor, a deep vocabulary, and the willingness to focus on unexpected details with wordplay, he added something unique to every gathering.

He will be sorely missed by his parents, Mike and Arlene Marszalowicz; his brother Alex Marszalowicz; his brother and sister-in-law Glen and Gwen Marszalowicz; his sister and brother-in-law Elena and Eddie Kochanek; two uncles; an aunt; and four nephews.

Mourners paid their respects Aug. 8 at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral Mass took place Aug. 9 at St. Catharine’s Church, Holmdel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance at tscalliance.org/ways-to-give would be very much appreciated.
