Kortney’s Challenge/Day at Races Aug. 10 at Monmouth Park

OCEANPORT – Kortney’s Challenge Annual Fun Walk Run and Day at the Races will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, at Monmouth Park.
Online registrations are being accepted for the run/walk through Wednesday, Aug. 6, at thekortneyrosefoundation.org. After that, registration will be accepted only at 8:30 a.m. on race day.
Kortney’s Challenge is a 2-mile fun run/walk established in the memory of 9-year-old Kortney Rose Gillette who lost her brave battle with brain cancer in 2006.
This is the ninth year for the signature event of The Kortney Rose Foundation. The foundation raises money for research funding into better treatments and cures for pediatric brain tumors, which are the No. 1 tumor cause of death in children ages 19 and under. The foundation also focuses on raising awareness to the disease.
The flat course is great for runners and walkers of all levels. Awards will be made in the categories: top three boys and girls under 12 and top three men and women, ages 12 and older.
The event will occur rain or shine.
The walk run schedule is: 8:30 a.m. registration and face painting and tattoos; 9 a.m. Dance Plus performance team exhibition; 9:30 a.m. the national anthem; 10 a.m. the race starts followed by finish line fun, a gift auction and 50/50; 10 a.m. awards ceremony; 11:30 family fun with music, clowns, pony rides and more.
After the race, The Kortney Rose Foundation, in conjunction with the Oceanport Policeman’s Benevolent Association (PBA), will be holding its Day at the Races. Tickets will entitle holders to entry into the designated picnic area where there will be food beverages, a race program and a full day of horseracing.
Tickets for the Day at the Races are $20 for participants in Kortney’s Challenge and $25 for non-participants. Tickets can also be purchased at thekortneyrosefoundation.org.
