Lawrence Daniel O’Brien of Middletown passed away June 22, 2024. Larry was born in Bronx, New York, to the late Michael and Catherine (Gibbons) O’Brien. He proudly served in the United States Army. He moved with his family to Middletown in 1972.

Larry worked primarily as a printer at Bowne & Co. in New York for most of his life, but he was also a member of the New York Pressmen’s Union, working at the New York Times and the New York Post. He was also a member of the Ironworkers Union.

Larry was very skilled and enjoyed building and crafting things around the home. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach with his family at his home on Long Beach Island. He was also very active throughout most of his life; he was an avid runner and he enjoyed biking, exercise and travel.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Virginia (Walker) O’Brien, and his brother Michael O’Brien. He is survived by his daughter Virginia (William) Plumb of Bedford, New York, and son Lawrence (Elizabeth) O’Brien of Middletown. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, James, Quinn and Kelsey Plumb and Hannah and Avery O’Brien, and two sisters, Barbara Barrens and Catherine Williams.

Visitation was held June 27 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home in Middletown. A funeral Mass was held June 28 at St. Mary’s Church in Middletown. Interment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
