Linda Beth Newman was born in Newark and spent her early years in Hillside. She was the daughter of Robert Schnabel and Elisabeth May (Simms) Schnabel and sister to Robert Schnabel Jr. She moved to Atlantic Highlands in early grade school and remained through high school, garnering a large number of friends.
She attended Monmouth College for her B.A. in secondary education where she met (and later married) Howard Martin Newman. She received her M.A. from Rutgers University in English and education. She had three successful careers as an English teacher, a realtor and a writer.
Linda Beth is survived by her only daughter, Amanda Beth Newman-Godfrey. She was predeceased by her husband Howard and her son-in-law Dean Michael Godfrey.
Linda Beth was an avid reader and loved all animals, especially her beloved cats. She was a mother to anyone who knew her and never withheld her opinion when asked for advice. Everyone valued her feisty and fun spirit and greatly admired her creativity. She lived for those around her and would always lend a helping hand to those in need. She will be missed by all those who knew and admired her.
Visitation was July 3 at John A. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. All were welcome to join to share stories of Linda Beth’s life. Burial immediately followed at Fair View Cemetery, Red Bank.
