LITTLE SILVER – The Education Foundation of Little Silver has presented a check for $44,241 to the Little Silver Schools Board of Education, which will be used to put technology in the hands of Little Silver students.
Requests were submitted to the foundation by teachers and administrators from both schools for the best and latest technological equipment such as SMART Boards, laptops and projectors. Foundation board members considered each request and awarded the grants for the equipment they felt would best serve the students.
Among the equipment the grant will purchase are eight SMART Boards which will ensure that each classroom in third, fourth and fifth grade will have one and every student within the district will have the chance to benefit from the popular tool.
The purchase of three iPads is expected to help greatly in the speech/language therapy department at Point Road School.
The education foundation holds a fundraiser every November during which most of its funds are raised. This past year’s event, the Silver Chef Throw-down was a playful competition between Joe Racioppi, executive chef at McLoone’s Pier House in Long Branch (owned by Little Silver residents Tim and Beth McLoone), and Little Silver teachers Tim Russoniello and Kim Christman. The event was a huge success.
Education Foundation President, Lori Stratford, said ‘We are thankful for everyone’s hard work in the past year and for the unwavering support of our community,” Education Foundation President Lori Stratford said.
The grants and gifts awarded for the 2012-13 academic year benefit students across all grades and multiple subject areas, and further support the education foundation’s mission to enhance the educational experience of Little Silver students through technology.
